This mask combines the flowers of January, including the Snowdrops, which the Victorians believed symbolized ill omens, as they would often bloom in graveyards from beneath the last snows of winter. The three carnations on the brow are also representative of January as well as the Korean tradition of telling a girl's fortune by placing three carnations in her hair. The order in which they withered would predict certain difficulties in specific phaes of her life.
